Home Ownership
Owning a home is a great milestone in your life. It’s usually an indication that you must be doing something correct. Now, maybe you’re not quite at that point yet. If thats the case, the road ahead can look confusing, it can look complicated and as if it has you more confused than all the terms & conditions agreements you’ve signed off on in the past. Well, no need to worry, because we’re going to try and clear the air a bit on how you can be on your to home ownership and reaching the next chapter in your life.
Are You Ready
The first step towards home ownership is to determine if you’re even ready to purchase a home yet. You should consider many things here such as your financial situation. If you do not have any money for a down payment, you’ll probably have to keep saving awhile longer.
Additionally, you should consider whether or not you’re quite ready to settle down yet. If you don’t plan on being in the same place for at least a year, or maybe even a few years, you may want to consider other options before committing to home ownership.
Getting Pre-Approved for Home Ownership
Getting pre-approval is an important first step. This will ensure that all the shopping you do in the near future is worth it. What do we mean by this? Well, when you pre-approved, you are basically told roughly how much or how little you will be able to get a mortgage for. This number is not exact, but it allows you to know what price range to look for.
If you’re approved only for $600k and you’re looking at houses with asking prices of $1.2 million, you’re wasting your time. Additionally, the next step will be much easier if you’re pre-approved for home ownership.
Finding a Realtor
The next step involves finding a realtor. But wait, it’s not as easy as it may sound. Finding an agent you’d like to work with takes time and effort. You want to make sure that you and your realtor will get along and are able to see eye to eye throughout your journey into home ownership. Working with someone who you are not able to get along with can be very difficult and make the whole process unenjoyable.
House Searching
Here comes the fun part. Now you just have to keep an eye out for the perfect house to hit the market. You can look online at many sites and your realtor will usually keep a pretty keen eye out for you as well. This part can be quick for some and long for others. Remember, once you find the right house, your heart should tell you. Some people believe in love at first sight, and that goes for home ownership as well!
Make an Offer
If you truly believe that you’ve found the right house, you should make an offer. Your realtor will be a big help in the process of making an offer and will also advise you on what to offer, with you having the final say of course.
Securing Financing & Closing
After an offer is accepted, there are usually many conditions that have to be met. On the sellers side, there will have to be an inspection of the house and ensuring you know what you’re getting into. Secondly, in order to achieve home ownership, you’ll have to go back to the bank or your mortgage broker and secure financing. This will make sure that you are able to purchase the house.
